Car Choices:
A general rule with pick-up trucks: head to and buy the diesels. However in the case of the Hilux, there are two diesel engines worth considering as a used purchase. First available from launch is the 163hp 3.0 4-cylinder which provides power in any rpm range and despite only available with 4WD, this is what we recommend. If you can find one, then the upgraded 2.5 which churns out 142hp is worth going if you do not need 4WD. This engine was added in September 2012 and only available in the E and G 2WD. If you can, steer clear of the 101hp 2.5 which struggles to accelerate even without load.

There exists a gasoline engine in the form of a 160hp 2.7 4-cylinder. Avoid this one since it guzzles fuel in a faster rate unless you have these three valid reasons: you are allergic to diesel, want the convenience of an automatic, and not needing 4WD.

Various updates were done in September 2008, February 2010, August 2011, and September 2012 with either cosmetic changes, equipment additions, or engine upgrades done during these dates. First in the list is the basic J which gets steel wheels, power steering, folding rear bench with under storage, fabric seats, CD player (cassette tuner for pre-September 2008 models) and added in 2010 is a driver's airbag. E adds step boards (later dropped), power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, keyless entry, alarm, dual glove box, power outlet with lighter, and alloy wheels with ABS brakes and a driver's airbag added in 2008 and USB connectivity in 2011. G 4x2 can be had with either the 2.7 gasoline (2005-September 2008) or 2.5 diesel (September 2008 and onward) plus a driver's airbag, and on board computer while step boards are added in 2008 and Bluetooth in 2011. G 4x4 gives you the 3.0 engine and dual airbags plus for September 2012 and later models, a touchscreen monitor with GPS navigation.

Peugeot 3008, 2014

  •  Peugeot 3008, 2014

The Peugeot 3008 is also equipped as standard with Hill Assist, which increases the convenience in use but also with safety in mind. When the vehicle is on a gradient and the driver has released the brake pedal, this function maintains the application of the brakes for a couple of seconds. The driver then has time to press the accelerator pedal without fearing the slightest undesired movement of their vehicle when moving off on a hill in forward gear or reverse, for example to parallel park.
With over 500,000 sales worldwide, exceeding the original projected targets by 50%, the Peugeot 3008 is a success due to its strong character. Aimed at customers who are freed from convention, this compact Crossover goes beyond the segments to combine the best of the SUV, a Hatchback and an MPV.

Technological equipment for increased safety
Beyond the considerable developments in its occupant protection, the Peugeot 3008 Crossover has a range of technological features to improve safety as standard equipment, like cruise control and the speed limiter. Also, using a 24GHz radar installed at the front of the vehicle, the Distance Alert continuously calculates the distance from the vehicle in front, expressed in seconds. If this measurement falls below the threshold stipulated by the driver, a visual alert appears on the headup display.

In town, the available space measurement system informs the driver as soon as a suitable sized space is found to park the vehicle. They then simply have to manoeuvre the Crossover in complete peace of mind using two items of equipment. The front and rear parking assistance indicate the distance between the vehicle and an obstacle. A graphic on the screen and sound alerts, which become more frequent as the distance decreases, indicate to the driver his freedom to manoeuvre. A new feature makes the manoeuvres easier. A reversing camera displays the area behind the vehicle on the screen. Its projected vehicle outline is then indicated by coloured lines on the display.

Once the vehicle has been parked, the electric handbrake is applied automatically when the ignition is switched off. An ECU, linked with the ESP, manages the force to be applied according to the gradient. It remains on standby while the vehicle is immobilised to adjust the force if necessary. If the vehicle is stationary but the ignition is not switched off, the electric control can be activated manually with a single touch to the switch conveniently located on the centre console.

The electric handbrake is released automatically when the driver presses the accelerator pedal. Furthermore, this technological solution permits the integration of a compact handbrake control device and so with it the installation of a large storage compartment.

Its modernity lies in its ability to combine the appeal of the Peugeot style with the strength of the Crossover, to unite driving pleasure and functionality. Multi-talented, its abilities become evident as it is used. Its cockpit and its technological equipment stimulate the driver who enjoys the full extent of the dynamic qualities, which are among the best in the segment.

This Crossover was innovated by offering the combination of diesel and electric propulsion as a world-first. Since its launch, the HYbrid4 technology has won over many customers, representing more than 10% of sales of the Peugeot 3008. In Europe, 6% of purchasers of hybrid vehicles also choose the 3008 HYbrid4.

Retaining all of its strengths, the latest Peugeot 3008 and 3008 HYbrid4 are distinguished by an elegant and contemporary style, emphasised by new lights. At the front and at the rear their light signatures now identify them with precision. New technological equipment increases their dynamism and fluidity of use. On the head-up display a full-colour illustration distinguishes between the different functions for instant notification. A new reversing camera makes manoeuvres easier by displaying the area immediately behind the vehicle.

A natural, intense and elegant presence
The Peugeot 3008 Crossover innovated by combining different vehicle types in a completely new way: the dynamism of the Hatchback, the single compartment of the MPV and the high architecture of the SUV. Its reduced dimensions (4.365m long, 1.837m wide) are adorned with a powerful and refined style.

Adopting the latest stylistic codes of the marque, the Peugeot 3008 affirms its character and its qualities with force: high-quality and contemporary style, strength, comfort in all situations, and driving sensations with the ability to adapt.

The strength is clear from first contact as the body protection is reassuring and the fits with precision. The bodywork is encircled by structured wheel arches, wings with expressive folds, stainless steel trimmings with strong 3D sculpting and body sills. On these the light effect confirms the Crossover identity. The 3008 rests on wheel designs which combine lightness and strength, finished in a diamond-sparkle finish and available in Anthra Grey on the 16" and 17" and brilliant black on the 18" rims.

The character of the front face, which has been completely redesigned, is pronounced due to the contrasting aspects. The grille and the foglamp trims appear to form a single chromed part emerging from the bodywork. Adorned with two thin chromed strips, the air intake reinforces the natural presence of the Peugeot 3008. It also gives it a look of stability. The foglamp trims take their inspirational shape from the latest concept cars produced by the Marque.

The innovative technological headlamps with their lively look also appear to be set in the bodywork. They are designed in detail with a subtle contrast of materials. So, the light source is integrated on a black mask surrounded by a chromed part. It rests on the direction indicator and the light signature, both with LEDs and of the flat guide type. Finally, a lateral crossbar sculpted in sandblasted chrome unites all of these components. At the top of the range, the headlamps incorporate for more tranquil driving a xenon lens with automatic height adjustment and directional adjustment.

The Lion badge dominates this rich, high-quality front face. The movement which starts from its recess runs across the bonnet which is naturally followed by the windscreen and the roof. The ample movement of this suggests the comfortable interior occupant space. The touches of chrome on the window upper trim, the body sills and the mirror shells demonstrate a high level of quality. The Lion also adorns the tailgate, accompanied by the name of the marque. New tail lights with a dark tint set off the light signature innovatively - lit by LEDs, the three floating claws have a sharp design and emerge from the lamp with a 3D effect.

To put the finishing touches to the 3008 according to personal taste, the range is offered in a choice of nine colours among which is Ruby Red, a new shade and Pearlescent White, a three-layer paint. On the 3008 HYbrid4, six colours are available now including Shark Grey.

Instruments and controls, the basis of the experience
On opening the door, the passenger compartment proves to be a new source of surprise and attraction. The light provided by the panoramic glass roof reveals the instruments and controls with supreme ergonomics with high quality and clarity. So, the driver takes his seat in a true cockpit with a Hatchback type driving position to enjoy the view forward with a unique experience in a Crossover of this segment.

In the centre of the driver's field of vision, above the dashboard, the 'head-up' display shows key information on its retractable polycarbonate strip (key information: vehicle speed and if selected the speed limiter / cruise control, as well as the proximity sensor for measuring the distance from the vehicle in front, information supplied by the Distance Alert). For immediate reading, each function is now presented in full-colour: white for the vehicle's current speed, orange for the speed limiter, green for the cruise control and red for the Distance Alert.

At the centre of the dashboard the retractable screen displays the interface for the audio-navigation, the trip computer, the front and rear parking assistance and the image filmed by the reversing camera. The various parameters of the head up display and of the Distance Alert are managed by the Toggle Switches which are controlled easily by the fingertips.

The controls permitting control of the progress of the vehicle are grouped together on the centre console which extends to the rear seats. With their forearm resting ideally on the armrest (that hides a capacious storage space), the driver can switch from one function to another with ease which promises great reactivity: gear lever, electric handbrake, Grip Control (for enhanced traction control). The console has laser engraving, an effect obtained by a digitally controlled tool. The beam draws a graduation of lines by depigmentation of the paint on its upper layer, while preserving the properties of the original material.

New trims
On the Active level, a new structured trim is named Grikol which has an effect of intertwining of threads with a changing appearance, depending on how the light falls, the effect changes from matt to gloss finish. For the Allure level, this offers an elegant and technical trim which mixes materials. The central part of the seat cushions and seat backs feature the Grikol textile, available in three colours: Guérande, Mistral and Ikoïa (which is specific to the 3008 HYbrid4). It is also possible to opt for the Leather Pack. The tops of the door trim pads and the dashboard are also covered with leather with the Full Leather Pack, which also includes power adjustment of the driver's seat.

Comfort and practicality of use
The occupants feel relaxed, wherever they are seated, due to a high level of soundproofing and a large glazed surface area which bathes the passenger compartment in light. The panoramic glass roof increases the glazing to an impressive 5m². It is also tinted to limit the penetration of light and heat, and also has an electric shutter.

At night, the natural light is replaced by lighting in the front footwells and by an ambiance LED in the roof console. The light even accompanies the user outside the Peugeot 3008 with the Follow Me Home function which keeps the lights on for up to thirty seconds, enough time to reach home for example, or with the guidance lighting on unlocking the doors. This timed period can be calibrated for the convenience of the user.

In the ergonomic cockpit, the driver is in a dynamic position inspired by the Hatchback. This special feature in the segment is achieved by means of three universal joints making it possible to give the steering wheel an ideal angle. In the front, the passengers can enjoy the journey ride in full safety, separated by a well-placed grab handle which link the centre console and the dashboard. In the rear, the passengers benefit from considerable space due to the streamlined seat shells facing them. All of the seats incorporate foam of a density which varies depending on the contact area. So, the seat backs and seat cushions offer excellent comfort whereas the side area offers firmer support.

Storage compartment for all seats
For everyday practicality, the passenger compartment has numerous storage compartments, amounting to a total of nearly 50-litres. The central armrest conceals a vast volume of 13.5 litres, permanently ventilated. It can accommodate, for example, a 1.5-litre bottle. The front passengers have 7.0-litre door trays, a 3.7-litre locked space below the steering wheel and a 4.1-litre litre glove box, with a net on the right-hand side of the centre console (LHD only). It is the same in the rear: two covers are integrated under the feet of the passengers, 3.3-litre on the left and 3.8-litre on the right, there are door trays of 2.5-litre and finally nets on the back of the front seats.

Well thought-out modularity
The tailgate and the lower tailgate or hobby can bear a load of 200kg, opening up a very accessible boot. In fact, the Multiflex interior allows you to adapt the boot of the Peugeot 3008 to suit your requirements due to the three-position boot floor and the folding rear seat backs. This adjustableheight floor structure is made of a composite material to which it owes its lightness, only 3.5kg, to making it very easy to handle. It is also fitted with four securing rings for attaching a luggage boot net. The Easy Flat rear bench seat has clear modularity. In a single movement, the seat cushions retract and the seat backs fold by means of controls located in the boot or at the top of the seat back. At the front, the passenger seat can be placed in the table position by pivoting the seat back. This is a practical feature for those who wish to transport complex shaped or long length objects.

So, the volume can vary from 512-litre (432dm3 VDA standard) under the shelf to 1604-litre (1241dm3 VDA standard), including the storage compartments on each side of the boot. Placing the front passenger seat in the table position increases the loading length to 2.62m. Finally, the boot has all the latest thoughtful features: the rigid load space cover opens with the tailgate to open up the loading space. It can also be removed and folded to be stored under the removable floor. On the left-hand side, the boot space interior light doubles as a removable electric torch light which charges automatically when it is placed in its holder to offer 45 minutes of use.

The 3008 HYbrid4, the first diesel-electric full-hybrid Crossover
As a world first, the combination of a 2.0-litre HDi FAP diesel engine of 120kW (163bhp) and an electric motor of 27kW (37bhp) has resulted in the HYbrid4 technology. It permits a true breakthrough in terms of reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions but also four-wheel drive with the internal combustion engine driving the front wheels and the electric motor the rear wheels. Its power reaches a total of 147kW (200bhp) with a maximum torque of 300Nm at the front and 200Nm at the rear. The dynamic performance is first class while at the same time reducing the impact on the environment as the fuel economy, in the Combined Cycle, is low at just 3.4 l/100km, that has CO2 of just 88g/km.

Simple to use, the best-selling diesel-electric hybrid technology in the world allows the driver to choose between four different driving modes:
In Auto mode, the electronics automatically control the whole system, making optimum use of the internal combustion engine and the electric motor. This mode exploits all of the dynamic characteristics of the diesel hybrid: 'diesel' front-wheel drive, four-wheel drive or electric drive to the rear wheels. It is also in this mode that the best fuel economy is possible and the lowest CO2 emissions are obtained.
The ZEV mode (Zero Emission Vehicle) provides access to an extended electric drive. The Peugeot 3008 then becomes the ultimate ecological vehicle, due to the total absence of pollutant emissions and noise. The driver can, in particular, engage this mode to drive discreetly in town, or to take full advantage of the comfort and pleasure of driving in silence. When the battery level becomes insufficient for use under purely electric power, the internal combustion engine restarts and the operating mode switches automatically to the Auto mode.
The four-wheel drive mode (4WD) improves traction by stipulating the use of both the engine and motor to work together to ensure grip and traction are optimised. The distribution of the torque can reach up to 40% on the rear axle at very low speed and changes according to the conditions of grip and the speed. The electronic control units are responsible for controlling the driving of the rear wheels precisely as it is necessary to optimise energy consumption.
The Sport mode, favouring dynamism, authorises a more responsive throttle response and more rapid gear change patterns at higher engine speeds than are programmed in the Auto mode. The full dynamic potential of the 3008 HYbrid4 is then mobilised to achieve maximum performance. In this mode, the idea of 'controlled power' takes on its full meaning: the simultaneous operation of the internal combustion engine and electric motor increases the liveliness ('boost' effect) which brings drive to all four driving wheels in the most effective way to obtain stability and sensations which driving enthusiasts appreciate.

The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 is distinguished by its badges, bearing the name of the technology on the front doors, the radiator and the tailgate. Brilliant Black touches are located on specific areas around the vehicle, on the grille beam, the aerodynamic spoiler and on the side mouldings. This effect is also a feature of the 17" diamond wheels, with the HYbrid4 branding produced by laser engraving.

Efficient dynamism
The 3008 Crossover provides handling that will delight the driver and passengers alike due to carefully designed aerodynamics (Cd of 0.296), reduced weight (from 1399kg) and a compliant suspension set-up to a very high level. To reduce the weight, the 3008 uses VHSS (Very High Strength Steel) and UHSS (Ultra High Strength Steel) panels, reducing some 12.5% of the weight of the vehicle, with aluminium for the bonnet and composite materials for the front wings.

The driver will enjoy in particular the precision of driving and the road holding, promises of a dynamism which is remarkable in the segment.

Peugeot expertise
These qualities originate from the chassis specification with an inverted pseudo MacPherson design for the front suspension, and a drop-link anti-roll bar. This architecture permits rigorous road holding and precise steering. At the rear, the suspension features a deformable crossmember, two trailing arms and an integrated anti-roll bar, benefiting compactness and rigidity. The wide track directly benefits the precision of driving control and the comfort that comes from the composure and stability they provide, whether in cornering or in a straight line, when accelerating or braking.

For optimum control of the roll, the DynamicRolling Control
To take control of vehicle roll on high-performance models, Peugeot 3008 is equipped with technology that has been developed in collaboration with KYBSE®. This passive hydraulic system makes it possible to accentuate the dynamic qualities still further while maintaining a high level of comfort. The two rear dampers are linked by a central module which consists of a floating piston and a compensation chamber, which is pressurised to 20bar.

During a roll phase, rounding bends or during avoidance manoeuvres, the hydraulic transfer takes place between the two dampers to allow the vehicle to corner as flat as possible. Comfort and active safety are therefore further improved.

During regular cruising phases (in a straight line) each of the two dampers are activated in the same way. The floating piston then slides under the changing pressure of these compressions, permitting an optimum damping pattern favouring comfort. The Dynamic Rolling Control is available with the 2.0-litre HDi FAP engine, with a manual or automatic gearbox.

An extensive choice of engines
The range starts for diesel with CO2 at just 110g/km and economy of 4.2 l/km (67.2mpg) with three types of gearbox available, all with six speeds: manual, automatic or ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox). For petrol the choice is just as extensive, starting with CO2 at 155g/km and economy at 6.7 l/100km (42.1mpg) and with three gearboxes: 5- or 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.

Grip Control, for enhanced traction
This system, patented by the PSA Group, makes it possible to extend the field of use of the 3008 Crossover in areas where controlled traction can optimise conditions of poor grip. Using electronic components which are already fitted on the vehicle, Grip Control is combined with Michelin Latitude Tour HP 'Mud & Snow' tyres of size 215/60 R16.

Versatile and flexible, it adapts to the terrain encountered by acting on the front wheels but always leaves the driver in full control. In fact, they can decide at any time to allow the intelligence of this equipment to act in Standard mode or select, on the dial placed on the centre console, the mode that they wish to use for specific terrain conditions: Snow, All Terrain, Sand, ESP Off.

The Grip Control is available on a wide number of models in the Peugeot 3008 Crossover range (the 1.6-litre THP 155 6-speed automatic engine, the 1.6-litre THP 155 6-speed manual, 1.6-litre THP 163 6- speed automatic, 1.6-litre e-HDi 115 ETG6, 1.6 HDi 115 6-speed manual and the 2.0-litre HDi 150 6-speed manual).

Pagani Zonda Revolucion, 2013

  •  Pagani Zonda Revolucion, 2013

The Pagani Zonda Revolucion is the ultimate experience for individuals who want to experience the thrill of an extreme track experience, in a safe and intuitive machine. Pagani Zonda Revolucion, like all creatures coming our to the Atelier in San Cesario sul Panaro, is tailor made. An object where art and science blend to create a perfect synthesis of technology, performance and aesthetics. A new masterpiece signed by Horacio Pagani.

The evolution of the species, the revolution in the concept of art applied to pure speed. Pagani Automobili unveiled the final version of the Pagani Zonda Revolucion to clients and family members during Vanishing Point 2013 - The International Pagani gathering.

The Pagani Zonda Revolucion is the apex of the celebration of performance, technology and art applied to a track car. Horacio Pagani and his team have created a car designed to amaze both on the track and in a car collection.

The central monocoque is carbon-titanium, the needle on the scale stops at 1070kg. The AMG Mercedes engine is an evolution of the Zonda R powerplant. The 6.0-liter V12 now develops an output of 800 hp and 730 Nm of torque, resulting in a power to weight ratio of 748 hp per tonne.

The 6 speed magnesium transversal and sequential gearbox changes gears in 20ms. The traction control developed by Bosch with 12 different settings and the renewed ABS system, allows the driver to adapt the behavior of the car to his driving style.

The Zonda R program has always represented the highest expression of the technology at Pagani Automobili. The aerodynamics feature important innovations, like new deflectors on the front bonnet, as well as a vertical stabilizer mounted on the rear bonnet.

The Pagani Zonda Revolucion also features a DRS (Drag-Reduction-System) on the rear wing. The system has two different operating modes, both can be activated by the driver at any time. The manual system is controlled with the DRS button on the steering wheel. The rear wing changes between maximum and minimum downforce settings, at the occurrence of a lateral acceleration of + / - 0.8 g and a minimum speed of 100 km / h. Holding down the DRS for more than two seconds engages the DRS to work automatically according to the algorithms developed by the Pagani Automobili engineers during the development phase. The result is a car that is always fast, a strong performer able to take on any circuit in the world.

The Brembo braking system adopts new cutting edge F1-tecnology derived CCMR discs. With a weight saving of 15% compared to the previous CCM discs, the CCMR offer higher stiffness and lower operating temperatures on extreme track use. This contributes to the life of the disc which is increased by four times, with no sign of fading and a significant overall increase in braking power.

Used Car Review - Ford Explorer Sport Trac (2000-2004)

Lifestyle truck? Err... Let Myk Belmonte do the talking about this truck for you.

2000-2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

History
Most pick-up trucks are geared toward hauling or the image of the Marlboro Man, but going towards active lifestyles? Hmm, its a niche. In the Philippines, majority of pick-up trucks are advertised to carry heavy cargoes like construction materials and balikbayan boxes but for those who are in the sporty side (scuba diving, mountain climbing) are definitely rare. Now, all pick-up trucks (nearly) have a mountain bike in their marketing paraphernalia.

Derived from, well you guessed it, the Explorer SUV; the Sport Trac is the first sport utility truck to be introduced in the US (it was followed by the Chevrolet Avalanche and the Honda Ridgeline) and slots between the Ranger and F150 in price and size. This vehicle is built on a stretched Explorer chassis, with the bed replacing the rear cargo area. The first generation model was first available in 2000 and discontinued in 2005 to make way for the second generation model launched the following year.

Ford Group Philippines launched the Explorer Sport Trac at the end of 2000 as part of its market portfolio expansion. It was a different approach since body on frame trucks were mostly targeting construction firms and farmers and the F150 is too large. With decreasing sales, Ford had no choice but to drop this vehicle in the line-up in 2004. From launch, one can get this vehicle in either 4x2 or 4x4 with an NBX trim (only available with the 4x2) being added in 2003.

Value and Costs
Since the Philippines do not like their trucks to be paired with gasoline powerplants, these vehicles have low residuals. And in the case of the Sport Trac, a unit can be had for between P280,000-P470,000. Just remember to weigh in your priorities especially if you want a gasoline powered truck.

Don't expect maintenance costs to be the same level with the Ranger (or any pick-up truck with CRDi technology) since it drinks gasoline fuel. Parts are similar with the Explorer SUV (which is based on) so parts hunting isn't a problem. Check out the bed area if the plastic materials are intact.

Exterior and Interior
Rugged lines dominate the Sport Trac's exterior, which resembles several Ford SUVs (duh). The exterior has some styling cues that shames other pick-up trucks during that time. Cargo space in the bed is decent enough, and a bed liner comes standard across the board. Roof rails and step board comes standard in the NBX and 4x4; while a bed cover and cargo cage is available in the 4x4. When it comes to length, the Sport Trac measures 5,230mm while the smallest model of the F150 has a length of 5,702mm.

Inside, the dashboard would like to remind you that it is a 90s car launched at the turn of the millennium, the same goes with the odometer which is the roll type. The column stick frees up space for the center console that houses the cupholders. Amenities inside include a power window at the rear, and dual audio system and climate control for front and rear occupants. Space for four is great, five is a squeeze.

Engine
The only engine option locally (and worldwide) is the Cologne 4,009cc which packs 205hp at 5,000rpm and 327Nm at 4,000rpm. It does not want to be revved hard, early shifts is the recipe for a pleasurable drive. The 5-speed automatic helps aid fuel efficiency, not performance.

Driving Impressions
Disclaimer: despite the Sport moniker, do not drive this vehicle like a sports car. Steering is precise, but slow to react and there is some body roll present. Road imperfections is transmitted from the outside to the passengers. The good thing is that, ground clearance is excellent for wading flooded streets and dirt roads. Just treat it as an item of utility, not of sporty desires.

Verdict
Allergic to diesels but want the bed? Then the Explorer Sport Trac is heaven sent. Definitely practical than the F150, but not losing some street cred. Before anything else, weigh in the options if you really want a Sport Trac.

The Good:
  • Sporty personality
  • Easy to drive
  • More practical than the F150 you are dreaming
The Bad:
  • No diesels
  • Expensive to maintain
  • Poor build quality
The Pick: 4x2

Opel Insignia Country Tourer, 2014

  •  Opel Insignia Country Tourer, 2014

The adaptive all-wheel system also supports drivers in non-critical situations. To reduce frictional losses and save fuel, the system automatically reverts to front-wheel drive whenever it senses that no adaptive interventions are required. The new Insignia family will soon be completed when the Opel Insignia Country Tourer makes its world premiere at the  Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013. While its Sports Tourer sibling is an elegant family and business station wagon, the new Opel Insignia Country Tourer expresses an innate desire for adventure.

The athletic all-rounder, with its higher ground clearance, provides freedom beyond the constraints of city limits and asphalt roads. Defining features include protective under-body guards front and rear, combined with prominent wheel-arch and lower body cladding, all complemented by dual exhaust tailpipes. State-of-the-art all-wheel drive ensures grip and sure-footed handling in all driving conditions. It is teamed with powerful turbo engines such as a 184 kW/250 hp, 2.0-liter SIDI direct injection gasoline unit or a high-performance 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI - both generating impressive maximum torque of 400 Nm.

Opel's all-wheel drive: Top-class technology in the mid-size segment
The electronically controlled 4x4 drivetrain incorporates a high-quality clutch, operating on Haldex principles, and an electronic limited-slip differential to ensure superb traction on both paved and unpaved surfaces. It constantly adapts to prevailing road conditions and varies torque distribution seamlessly from zero to 100 percent between the front and rear axles, as well as between the rear wheels. The main benefit is that all this happens even before a wheel starts to slip due to lack of traction, for example on wet or snow-covered roads. In combination with the electronically controlled Flex Ride premium chassis, the all-wheel drive system sets standards in terms of reaction time and vehicle control.

When necessary, the clutch controlling drive distribution immediately sends more torque to the rear axle. The 4x4 system's sensors constantly feed individual control modules with information on yaw rate, acceleration, steering angle, wheel speed, gas pedal position, engine speed and torque, and the front/rear power distribution is constantly adapted to the driving situation based on this information.

Ultimate stability and higher dynamics are ensured by the electronically-controlled rear-axle Limited Slip Differential (eLSD). The eLSD controls the distribution of torque between the rear wheels, transferring drive torque to the wheel that has the most grip. While offering better traction in slippery conditions, the sophisticated operation of this adaptive 4x4 drive system guarantees the highest levels of driver control and active safety in all situations. The Opel Insignia Country Tourer can even provide propulsion when three wheels are on loose or slippery ground and only one rear wheel has traction.

Turbo engine line-up: High torque on demand
Strong Opel turbo engine power is a perfect match for the Country Tourer's state-of-the-art 4x4 drivetrain. The choice of three engines is led by a 184 kW/250 hp 2.0 SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) Turbo gasoline engine, delivering excellent performance. Generating an impressive 400 Nm of torque, this direct injection engine guarantees massive levels of traction.

The high-performance 143 kW/195 hp 2.0 Bi Turbo CDTI diesel also packs 400 Nm of pulling power. Its sequential, two-phase turbocharger delivers an immediate throttle response for excellent traction. A 120 kW/163 hp, 2.0 CDTI (with single tailpipe) completes the engine line-up, giving access to 350 Nm of torque, which is raised briefly to 380 Nm on overboost.

Both the 2.0 SIDI Turbo and the 2.0 CDTI can be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI is available only with the latter.

The new Insignia Country Tourer also benefits from larger tires and a raised ride height, in addition to its four-wheel drive traction and lively responses. Ground clearance is 20 mm higher than standard, a major advantage when encountering loose, uneven terrain. So whether it's used for a winter holiday on snowy roads, or simply when the going gets tough, the Opel Insignia Country Tourer makes an ideal companion to easily handle unpaved roads and hilly terrain during work or leisure time. And in the city, its rugged looks also give it a strong stand-out appeal.

Well-toned: Athletic top station wagon with SUV character
The purposeful character of the new Insignia Country Tourer clearly signals its strong desire for freedom. With a signature Opel grille, now wider and deeper, the frontal styling has a distinct appeal. The grille's horizontal chrome bar carries the central brand emblem and is sculpted in a wing form, with its outer tips turned upwards like winglets alongside the headlamps. A protective panel, in a gleaming silver finish, sweeps out from under the engine compartment; a prominent design theme echoed at the rear, where the paneling is framed by two gleaming exhaust tailpipes - all elements that simultaneously communicate a sense of power and protection.

Another characteristic feature is the anthracite-colored protective cladding on the side sills and lower body sections, which also gives the wheel-arches a more pronounced, flared look. The Opel Insignia Country Tourer's robust appearance gives it an assertive, self-confident persona. A final visual flourish is provided by distinctive front and rear light units. The tinted headlamps, with embedded chrome accents, exude high-quality and incorporate wing-style LED daytime running lights (depending on trim version). The graphic design theme is repeated at the rear, where LED brake and taillights also illuminate brightly. With its unique design features, the new Insignia Country Tourer successfully combines its roles as sporty adventurer and prestigious brand flagship.

Nissan 370Z Nismo, 2014

  •  Nissan 370Z Nismo, 2014

The Nissan 370Z Nismo's outstanding performance is anchored by an advanced Nissan FM (Front Midship) platform, refined 4-wheel independent suspension and 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL) rated at 350 hp @ 7,400 rpm and 276 lb-ft of torque @ 5,200 rpm. The VVEL system helps optimize intake valve open/close movements, allowing the needed air to be sent promptly to the combustion chamber at the precisely optimized time. The Nissan 370Z Nismo's enhanced engine power and acceleration (versus non-Nismo 370Zs) is provided through use of an exclusive H-configured exhaust system design and muffler tuning, along with optimized ECM (Engine Control Module) calibration.

In conjunction with the U.S. debut of the new 2013 Nissan Juke Nismo - and the ongoing expansion of the Nismo brand worldwide - Nissan gave attendees at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show a preview of the 2014 Nissan 370Z Nismo. Set to go on sale at Nissan U.S. dealers nationwide in summer 2013, the Nissan 370Z Nismo follows the new Nismo design theme with distinctive new exterior and interior accents.

The Nissan 370Z Nismo setting the bar as a tuner-Z® enthusiast's dream straight from the factory and fully warranted - offering 350 horsepower, racing-inspired exterior and interior styling, a specially tuned suspension and unique super-lightweight forged alloy wheels - the enhancements for 2014 are designed to up the car's already strong visual impact. On the exterior, new dark gray coloring is added to the front and rear fascias, lower side sills, side mirrors and Nismo rear spoiler, with each element (except side sills) featuring Nismo-style red pinstripe accents. In addition, Solid Red replaces the previous Magma Red as one of four Nissan 370Z Nismo exterior color choices. Interior enhancements include the addition of a new steering wheel with Alcantara appointments and red accents, and a red Nismo tachometer.

Just one transmission is offered, a close-ratio 6-speed manual with Nissan's SynchroRev Match® synchronized downshift rev matching system. The SynchroRev Match® function automatically controls and adjusts engine speed when shifting to the speed of the next gear position, essentially "blipping" the throttle to smooth out any up/down shifts. This not only allows the driver to focus more on braking and steering, it improves the smoothness of gear shifts by reducing the typical "shock" when the clutch is engaged. The system can be deactivated with a button next to the shifter for drivers who prefer to shift on their own.

The Nissan 370Z Nismo also features a tight, rigid body structure with a strut tower bar brace and a pair of performance dampers, which quickly and efficiently react to help control body vibrations from road input via the tires, contributing to the Nissan 370Z Nismo's outstanding handling and performance feel. The Nissan 370Z Nismo's double-wishbone front/4-link rear suspension design suspension is specially tuned for exceptional handling, including higher spring and stabilizer bar rates and increased roll stiffness and front and rear damping factors (compared to non-Nismo models).

The 370Z Nismo rides on unique 5-spoke Nissan-branded 19-inch RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels (19x9.5-inch front, 19x10.5-inch rear) with a Gun Metallic finish. The wheels are mounted with Bridgestone Potenza S001 Y-rated high-performance tires (245/40ZR19 front, 285/35ZR19 rear). Braking is provided by Nismo Sport Brakes with large diameter 14.0-inch front and 13.8-inch rear vented rotors with 4-piston front and 2-piston rear aluminum calipers.

The braking system includes a variable ratio brake pedal, high-rigidity brake hoses, R35 Special II fluid and red-finish calipers.

Along with the new color treatments, the 2014 Nissan 370Z Nismo exterior includes an extended front nose design and a fully integrated chin spoiler - providing a sense of dynamic movement while enhancing airflow and downforce for enhanced aerodynamic performance. The 370Z Nismo is 6.2 inches longer than the standard 370Z Coupe. Special side sills and a unique rear bumper help control airflow under the vehicle, while the functional rear spoiler increases downforce. Four exterior colors are offered: Pearl White, Magnetic Black, Gun Metallic and Solid Red.

The inside of the Nissan 370Z Nismo's driver-centric interior includes Nismo logo seats with black and red fabric and red stitching, a Nismo tachometer, steering wheel with Alcantara wrap and red parallel stitching, smooth leather-wrapped shift knob and aluminum-trimmed pedals. A special serialized plaque of authenticity, located on the vertical panel above the floor-mounted console, is matched to each Nissan 370Z Nismo identifying its unique serial and model year designation.

The sporty woven cloth seats feature standard 8-way driver's/4-way passenger manual adjustments and adjustable front seat Active Head Restraints. There are no other options offered.

Car Spots: Mitsubishi Mirage G4

Meet our new section in which new cars also join the fun: Car Spots. In this section, we would evaluate brand new cars if they could stack up initially with competitors and noteworthy of your consideration. This is not a full length review, just to be reminded.

Our first vehicle to be evaluated on Car Spots is the Mitsubishi Mirage G4, basically the sedan version of the Mirage hatchback. If the hatchback derivative sold well, we shall see if this would hold a candle against other sub-compacts in the market.

Pardon the photo quality as I used my cellphone camera for this. Mirage G4 (GLS variant) unit spotted in SM Megamall.

Exterior
Unlike the hatchback which offers funky colors (which has lime similar to the Picanto), the G4 is more of a guy presented in suit ready for the JS Prom. It has more formal styling which is geared for the young family than the bachelor readying for the corporate world. I can't help but to say the G4's styling is a mix of the Ford Fiesta/Mazda 2 sedan, Honda City, and Hyundai Accent sedan. Vehicle length plays 4,245mm which is longer than the Suzuki Swift Dzire (3,995mm), but it is smaller than the Ford Fiesta sedan (4,320mm), Kia Rio sedan (4,365mm), Hyundai Accent sedan (4,370mm), 2013 Toyota Vios (4,410mm), and Honda City (4,430mm). Do take note the Mirage G4 GLS which is being evaluated here wears 15 inch wheels while GLX has 14 inch steel rims with hubcaps. Oh, the rear badge includes a G4 name so people would not confuse you.

Interior
Since I came from school and had my hair raised up, sitting at the back didn't made my hair messy! I was very amazed at the back especially it rivals the Honda City, 2007-2013 Toyota Vios, and even the Hyundai i10 when it comes to headroom. Upfront, seating position was high and controls for the touchscreen radio and air-conditioning are within my reach. Quality, I was very impressed with the materials that were used. These items are exclusive to the GLS variant: power windows, touchscreen monitor with navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, SD card and iPod ready, leather steering wheel with radio controls, and a push button ignition key. GLX models come with window cranks, 2-DIN radio minus the navigation, Bluetooth, and SD card and iPod connection, leather material on the tiller, automatic climate control, push button ignition, and ABS brakes. Dual airbags are standard with the Suzuki having none. Trunk space is large, impressive for such a small car.

Engine
Same with the hatchback, the Mirage G4 has a 1.2 3-cylinder gasoline engine which pumps out 78hp at 6,000rpm and 100Nm at 4,000rpm. If we compare it to the Suzuki Swift Dzire and Kia Rio which carries 86hp and 87hp respectively and with both having 4-cylinder engines, the Mirage is a bit less than the two. We just have to say that it is fuel friendly and the salesperson I talked to said "wala naman gaano kalaban na 1.2 engine". The Vios is too big to have competition with this. Let us wait for future reviews if this can deliver. Before I leave, available transmissions are a manual and a continuously variable transmission.

Price
Is the Mirage G4 sulit? Weirdly, the sedan's price is higher than the hatchback and priced above the Swift Dzire at P568,000. Since this is not yet listed in the website of Mitsubishi Philippines, CarGuide published them on their price guide for September. GLX variants are priced at P578,000 for the MT and P628,000 for the CVT while the GLS is pegged at P668,000 for the MT and P718,000 for the CVT. In that price range, it rivals low end models of the Toyota Vios, Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent, Ford Fiesta, and Nissan Almera. The money can buy you more features (especially in the GLS) and space but those who want more room and power might find competitors better bargains. Those who are budget conscious and want more without spending more money and resources, this is the one to get.

Verdict
After the Lancer Cedia's lackluster sales performance, it was time for Mitsubishi to introduce the Mirage G4. You get a host of amenities for less coupled with a fuel efficient engine and roomy cabin. We would pick this over the Swift Dzire but if other rivals come to the picture, we'll check and test drive if they meet our needs. The salesperson said to me "Hindi ito kalaban ng Vios dahil maliit".

Used Car Review - Ford Explorer Sport Trac (2000-2004)

Car Choices:
The 4.0 V6 gasoline which produces 205hp is the only option available. It prefers early shifts, not to be driven hard especially the automatic transmission - which has five forward gears - helps you save fuel.

Unless you drive in rough roads most of the time, the 4x2 is more than adequate for your needs. This variant gives you ABS brakes, airbags, bed liner, power pedals, cassette player with CD, on board computer, keyless entry, and alarm. 4x4 models gain fog lamps, moon roof, leather seats, and dual control audio system with headphone jack. Added in 2003 which slots between the 4x2 and the 4x4 is the NBX which is 2WD then adds roof rails, step board, and water proof rubber flooring and floor mats.

Mitsubishi CA-MiEV Concept, 2013

  • Mitsubishi CA-MiEV Concept, 2013

The Mitsubishi Motors now explores the full electro-mobility engineering palette - Pure Electric (EV), Hybrid Electric (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEV) - hinted at through two concept cars world-premiered at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, next to the New Outlander PHEV, one of which is the CA-MiEV Concept electric vehicle.

It started R&D on electro-mobility back in 1966, today's Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) always considered that electric vehicles (EV) should eventually become long-term core products - a view vindicated by recent concerns over global warming.

From the pioneering i-MiEV in 2009 and a self-imposed objective of 20% of EV-based cars by 2020, MMC has already made significant steps in this direction as demonstrated with the all-new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle ("PHEV") and its most innovative "Dual Design" architecture.

Showcase
Supported by three years of i-MiEV global customer feedback since 2009 as well as continuous progress in battery technology and electric drive train, MMC now considers taking pure EVs beyond a mostly urban environment with a next generation compact EV such as this CA-MiEV Concept.

Whilst at this stage not planned for production, this concept car is intended as a showcase of the various technologies MMC intends to introduce mid- to long-term across its range of global vehicles.

In particular, this demonstrator can rely on next generation EV systems and high density batteries, light weight as well as advanced aerodynamics to offer a 300 km driving range (or about one week of driving for an average European driver[2]), perfectly suited for suburban & country daily life.

Further innovative real-life features include magnetic resonance wireless charging technology and smartphone activated functions.

0.26 Sleek
Mitsubishi Motors first true concept car in years, CA-MiEV Concept can be understood as a declaration of intent, stressing the return to Engineering's primacy within the corporation to better serve (global) customer demand.

Hinted at through the first products of MMC's latest product cycle (pioneering 44g/km Outlander PHEV, lightweight 92 g/km Mirage[3]), this creed will be further adhered to with the introduction of next generation technologies throughout the range over the coming years.

Design play no small part in the new development with a clear emphasis on aerodynamic performance. After Global Small's segment record 0.27 Cd, the 5-door CA-MiEV Concept compact hatchback takes the baton with a Cd target of 0.26.

Very sleek, the arrow-shaped CA-MiEV Concept brings a degree of high tech sleekness to small car design, all the way to its unusual canopy sloping rear roof line.

Highly efficient (full flat floor, rear-view cameras, minimal air intakes, rear diffuser), CA-MiEV Concept is also full of dramatic detailing - from the boomerang-sculptured front and rear lights to the ascending side character line enclosing the rear wheel arches to create a strong forward motion effect.

High Density
To power CA-MiEV Concept, MMC inaugurates its next generation high efficiency drivetrain:
  • All-in-One integrated power unit (80 kW motor + inverter + charger) - to help with energy management, packaging and weight reduction.
  • Compact flat battery pack - to help with packaging (especially for possible later applications like range extender) and better long term battery performance.
  • Magnetic resonance wireless charging technology - to help with user-friendliness, as jointly announced in September 2011[4] by WiTricity Corporation, IHI Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and currently under investigation and testing.
  • High density energy Lithium-ion batteries - to help with energy efficiency and also with packaging.
Connected
Roomy, sleek, lightweight and efficient, a future electric vehicle like CA-MiEV Concept - but also any future ICE, HEV or PHEV Mitsubishi vehicle for that matter) shall also be connected to the rest of the planet, infrastructure permitting, with telematics features such as:
  • Automatic e-mailing in case of theft.
  • Automatic e-calling in case of an emergency.
  • Remote controlling (engine start/no start, panic alarm, door locking.
  • Data transfer (maps) from Smartphone to in-car system
  • Remote energy monitoring or pre-heating for EVs and PHEVs (already featured with Outlander PHEV).
