Car Choices:
For all around usage, best head to the 136hp 2.0 since it offers the mix of performance and maintenance costs. The turbocharged 200hp T4 is fast but the chassis gets taxed when driven fast.
The base model, plainly called the S40, gets 15 inch alloy wheels, airbags on the front and side, ABS brakes, fog lamps, 60/40 folding rear seat, booster child seats, all power amenities, cassette with CD player, electronic height adjusted headlamps, and keyless entry. Added in 2003 is the SE which adds leather upholstery, wood accents, front armrest with cup holder, and rear armrest. T4 gains the turbocharged engine, 16 inch rims, rear spoiler, chrome bits, 10 disc changer, and moon roof.
Early models were subject to several quality issues, so be wary.
